Today we’re back with a new lighthearted review of one of the most recent K-Drama tv shows to be released internationally, Café Minamdang. I’ll be giving you my honest opinion wether it is a show worth watching or not. So let’s dive right into it.

What is Café Minamdang All About?

Don’t worry I’m not going to spoiler anything, I’ll just give you a quick overview on what the story and feel is all about. First of all it’s a lighthearted comedy/mystery story.

Nam Han-joon an eccentric and ex policeman and “shaman”, played by Seo In-guk who also starred in the Reply series, is on the quest to clear his name after having been framed and jailed for tampering evidence in his best friend’s assassination investigation.

Using his skills as a profiler and his sister’s know how in digging up information on people, he squeezes out of VIPs connected to his case. He comes across a just as determined police woman who is also in the race to find out the truth, who he doesn’t know is his best friend’s sister (played by Oh Yeon-seo who also starred in Mad for Each Other). They continuously step on each other’s feet in a hilarious sequence of events.

What Kind of Show Is It?

In pure Korean Drama style Café Minamdang is a blend of comedy, action and mystery. It is clearly not the serious realistic show. It’s more something to watch to relax and have a healthy laugh.

Therefore expect unrealistic exaggerations and crazy situations to arise in the show. However it’s all normal if you are accustomed to KDrama shows.

Is Café Minamdang Worth Watching?

In my opinion it is a cute show to watch when you just want to get your head off your thoughts at the end of your day. It will entertain you, there aren’t too many slow parts, particularly in the first half of the show.

The story is told in an interesting way, slowly giving insights into what happened in the main character’s past and who is really behind Nam Han-joon’s framing.

Where to Watch It?

Outside of South Korea, for most countries, the drama will be available on Netflix which has become the home to many Kdramas.
