A lot has been going on in recent months around the new Italian flag carrier ITA Airways. Just a few days ago the airline launched its new sports themed safety video. Also the Italian carrier in the midst of talks for a possible sale to the Lufthansa group. Lastly, along with all this, ITA Airways is continuing a pretty aggressive network expansion thanks to the newly acquired planes. Today we’re talking about ITA Airways’ newest flight AZ770 from Rome to New Delhi.
ITA Airways Rome New Delhi Flight Details
The flight has already stated operations. The first flight departed Rome Fiumicino Airport on a full load on December 3rd 2022. AZ770 is now part of ITA’s scheduled flight services.
The flight has a 3 times weekly frequency and the schedule is as follows:
- AZ770 Rome Fiumicino (FCO) –> New Delhi (DEL) – Departing every Monday, Wednesday e Saturday at 14:10 and arriving at 02:00 AM the day after.
- AZ769 New Delhi (DEL) –> Rome Fiumicino (FCO) – Departing every Tuesday, Thursday e Sunday at 03:50 AM and arriving at 08:10 AM.
The outbound flight has an estimated flight time of 7 hours 20 minutes. The return flight on the other hand clocks in at 8 hours 50 minutes. This large difference in flight time depends on the wind currents and jet streams.
This new flight is thought to serve both tourists, expats and business travellers making their way from Europe to India and viceversa. Also the airline is trying cater to the needs of travellers looking to connect onwards to other European destinations via the renovated Rome Fiumicino Airport.
This last point being on where the old Italian airline, Alitalia, was always a bit lacking compared to the other larger European carriers.
Which Plane Will Fly Flight AZ770?
The selected aircraft for this route is the Airbus A330-200. ITA Airways has 7 of the type in its fleet. Most of these wide body long range A330-200 were inherited from the old Alitalia just over a year ago.

- 17 Premium Economy seats
- 234 Economy Class seats
Other Future Expansions
After having opened new flights from Rome to New York, Los Angeles, Boston, Miami, Buenos Aires, San Paolo and Tokyo in 2022, ITA will be launching another new connection. In this case it is very clearly a tourist oriented service.
The Italian airline will commence flights from Rome Fiumicino Airport to the Maldive from the 17th of December until the 15th of April. This is one of the most popular winter destinations for Italian holiday makers. It is, for the moment, just a seasonal flight serving during the Christmas and Easter seasons.
