Singapore Airlines, or SIA, is one of the giants of modern aviation. Pre pandemic the airline carried close to 21 million passengers all across the world, making it one of the largest airlines in the world. Fleet-wise the airline is quite impressive as well. This is exactly what we’ll concentrate on in this post, the SIA (Singapore Airlines) fleet in 2023.
The Singapore Airlines Fleet (SIA) in 2023
Singapore Airlines operates a two manufacturer fleet, with aircrafts almost evenly split among Airbus and Boeing. Due to its geographical position and the absence of a domestic market most of the SIA fleet is comprised of long range or wide body planes.
Most of Singapore Airlines’ routes are long range or ULR operations connecting Asia to Europe and North America. The only routes where the airline can deploy it’s smaller short range planes is on sectors to southeast Asia.
At the moment the SIA fleet is comprised of 128 planes for passenger operations.
The Singapore Airlines Fleet of Wide Body Planes:
- 62 Airbus A350-900
- 10 Airbus A380
- 20 Boeing 777-300ER
- 17 Boeing 787-10
The Singapore Airlines Fleet of Narrow Body Planes:
- 7 Boeing 737-800
- 15 Boeing 737-MAX 8
The newer Boeing 737 MAX 8 have the new regional business class product installed. The 10 available seats are in alternating layouts with 2 rows in a 2-2 disposition and the middle one in a 1-1. The new regional business class seats are not fully flat bed capable and are Thompson Aerospace’s Vantage seats.
Economy class on the other hand features 144 Meridian seats by Collins Aerospace in a standard 3-3 layout.
It must be noted though that Singapore Airlines also uses its larger jets on medium haul operations depending on traffic volumes and operational needs.
The Special SIA A350-900ULR
The Airbus A350-900 fleet includes some very special planes. For its longest operations SIA uses 7 A350-900ULR version. This variant is fitted with a special cabin configuration.
Although the A350 is capable of carrying over 300 passengers, Singapore Airline fits the its ULRs with just 67 Business Class Seats and 94 Premium Economy Seats. This helps further extend the range of the plane having to carry less weight.
The business class cabin features a 1-2-1 seat layout while Premium Economy is in a 2-4-2 layout.
The SIA Cargo Fleet
The airline along side its passenger operations also flies a cargo division. Clearly this is a much smaller division when compared to the passenger one. The cargo fleet only features a total of 9 aircrafts:
- 7 Boeing 747-400F
- 2 Boeing 777F
In 2023 as operations continue, hopefully, to return to pre-covid levels we’ll see if SIA brings back more of it’s planes from storage or will place new orders to its two suppliers.
