ITA Airways was born in 2021 when the previous Italian flag carrier, Alitalia, ceased operations. The airline started flying using the inherited Alitalia fleet while waiting to receive its first new airplane orders.
ITA Airways was initially 100% government owned, however the search for a operational partner started shortly after the company was created.
The airline operates an extensive European network along with a selection of long range routes in North and South America along with a growing number of cities in Asia.
ITA has two hubs at the moment: Rome Fiumicino and Milan Linate Airports. Fiumicino is the long haul flight hub while Linate serves all European routes from Italy's financial main city. The airline almost completely let go of having a presence in Milan's other airport, Malpensa.
